ULYSSES Annual Meeting in Frankfurt (DE)

ULYSSES NETWORK ANNUAL MEETING – YOU ARE ALL INVITED !

The ULYSSES partners will take advantage of the Cresc… festival organized in Frankfurt from the 21st to the 24th of November to meet and get into a discussion  with other professionals of the contemporary music area, approaching especially the benefits of the activities developed inside a network, and presenting the network online community tool.

The ULYSSES Network was founded in 2012 by 14 different Academies in Europe to give better conditions by cooperative projects to the promotion and support of young contemporary musical creation.  First steps are done, and the meaning and importance of electronic media as artistic medium as well as medium for communication is obvious. In this context the Ulysses platform was created.

The ULYSSES Platform is a social tool for young artists and european cultural managers in the field of New Music developed by IRCAM in close cooperation with the Ulysses network partners.
The Ulysses platform has been designed to meet the specific needs of the largest possible number of artists and cultural managers. This community website is designed to create and develop a professional and dynamic online network, focusing on the needs of young artists and leading operators in the field of music.
It can be seen as a “Forum” for all its users and as a tool through which it is possible to communicate, promote works or events, share files, organize academies or simply work together on specific projects. In order to increase awareness of existing new musical production in Europe, our goal is to provide a public database containing information on projects, young artists and their works. This database serves as a private source of content for producers and distributors in Europe, allowing professionals to share and get information (recordings, scores, videos, press releases, biographies, production costs etc.) and encourage them to program new works while respecting copyright legislation.
The ambition of the ULYSSES Platform is to become a one-stop interface gathering all relevant information regarding the field of new music throughout Europe. It is focused on all users that would be interested in discovering the musical production of young artists.

With our presentation we would like to inform you about this new tool and get into a discussion about benefits of networks like this as well as needs of composers and artists, young ensembles nowadays. These subjects will be focused on during a panel with :

– Lars Petter Hagen, composer and director of  Ultima Festival in Oslo,

– Henk Heuvelmans (director of Gaudeamus Muziekweek and one of the partners of Ulysses network),

– Vito Zuraj (composer, being involved in projects of the Ulysses network) and

– A member of Ensemble Modern, representing the ensemble’s point of view.

The same day the second Cresc… Festival starts in Frankfurt (21.-24. November: ), with 10 concerts full of contemporary music — a good to stay a little bit longer in Frankfurt !

The ULYSSES Network partner instutions stay one more day to held an intern Network meeting on 22nd November.
