FEEDING MUSIC – Expo 2015 Milano (IT)
05/2015 Divertimento Ensemble – IT
Expo 2015’s Italian Pavilion announces the international composition competition Feeding Music – Music for EXPO 2015.
The art of music touches upon the complex issue of food for all in environmental, historical, cultural, anthropological and spiritual terms; food and music, prepared and shared by individuals within the community, symbolize and transit metaphorical meanings, immaterial messages, ineffable memories and grand ideals.
An international jury of 10 composers selected 50 composers as finalists to participate in Feeding Music – Music for Expo 2015.
The 50 finalists must each create a new composition for an ensemble of no more than 7 musicians, in some way connected to the Expo 2015 theme:
“The art of music touches upon the complex issue of food for all in environmental, historical, cultural, anthropological and spiritual terms; music can express the plight of hunger, malnutrition, waste and food corruption – unavoidable issues that music can combat and move others to fight.
Food and music, prepared and shared by individuals within the community, symbolize and transit metaphorical meanings, immaterial messages, ineffable memories and grand ideals.”
The 50 compositions selected will be performed 4 times at 4 different concerts, from May to June 2015 in the Italian Pavilion at Milano Expo 2015, by Divertimento Ensemble and Ensemble Sentieri selvaggi.
Selected composers will be hosted for 3 days/nights for rehearsals and performances, and may work directly with musicians from the two ensembles.
The pieces will be premiered during EXPO 2015 in the Italian Pavilion, Auditorium Milano (IT).
A selection of works will be presented in 2016 by Divertimento Ensemble in several concerts.
