Workshop for Composition and Performance with Oliver Knussen, Colin Matthews and Michael Gandolfi

07/2013 Aldeburgh – UK

Members of Aldeburgh composition courses read like a who’s- who of composition from the last 30 years, including such names as Thomas Adès, George Benjamin, Julian Anderson, Michel van der Aa and Francisco Coll.

A group of 7 young composers join 15 instrumentalists to work with Colin Matthews and Michael Gandolfi on writing new ensemble pieces, leading to a final concert where all the newly written works are showcased.

The instrumental ensemble comprises 15 academy musicians tutored by eminent contemporary specialists including Melinda Maxwell (winds), Michael Thompson (brass) and Zoe Martlew (strings).

Three members of the ensemble join us on the recommendation of our Ulysses Network partners Opus XXI in Hamburg.

Six successful applicants have now been selected for participation in the project – the young composers taking part in 2013 are:

Louis Chiappetta

Tom Coult

Nicholas Moroz

Robert Peate

Emma Ruth Richards

Michael Taplin
