Composition session – three week residency at the Royaumont Foundation

An exceptional composition session – under the direction of Brian Ferneyhough, and with Johannes Schöllhorn and Dmitri Kourliandski as visiting professors – will gather Ensemble Recherche, Neue VocalSolisten, Quatuor Diotima and Ircam team, offering 15 young composers the opportunity to write a piece for these different instrumentations, in the frame of a three-week-residency in Royaumont Abbey.

(In the framework of the ULYSSES Network composers exchange organized between Royaumont Foundation (FR), Gaudeamus Muziekweek (NL) and impuls (AUT), four composers will be selected in order to continue in 2015 with further composition workshops in Austria or in the Netherlands.)
The schedule of the workshop has been designed as follows :
# Theoretical instruction from Monday August, 8thth to Saturday, September,21th 2014 as below:
– 9 group lessons (3 hours per lesson) by the 3 teachers on alternate day.
– 6 individual lessons by student (one hour per lesson) : 2 lessons with each teacher
# Practical instruction from September 22th to September 18th :
Two rehearsal sets of 2 hours with the performers.
The works will be performed in 2 concerts in Royaumont on September 28th (3.00 pm and 5.30 pm) as part of the Voix nouvelles concert series.
During their residence at Time of Music Festival in Viitasaari in July 2015, Quatuor Diotima will again perform a selection of the young composers’ works.
