IEMA Composition Workshop 2013

The IEMA-Ensemble 2012/13 includes 20 artists: 15 musicians, one sound designer, one music educator and a conductor, also 2 composers are part of this IEMA year:

The IEMA composers, together with 2 composers recommended by Royaumont:
Adi Snir and Benjamin Scheuer
and 2 composers recommended by Gaudeamus :
Andys Skordis and Alexander Khubeev
get the opportunity to create world premieres in 2 steps:
the first period is about “try-out” and “input” under the guidance of the experienced members of Ensemble Modern,
the second period contains the rehearsals and concerts.
Schedule :
Period 1: 17+18 mai 2013 All composers come for to Frankfurt, getting known to the IEMA-Ensemble, every composer gets time for try-outs with the Ensemble. Members of Ensemble coach these rehearsals. 5 members of Ensemble Modern will coach these rehearsals and will provide instrumental workshops to the composers. The experienced conductor Lucas Vis will be tutoring these processes; in the end he will take over up to 3 of the pieces for the concerts, the other pieces will be conducted by the IEMA conductor Vimbayi Kaziboni.

Period 2: Until midth of July the composers provide scores and parts of their new pieces. The IEMA-Ensemble starts rehearsing on these pieces in August 2013, all composers will be present.
Period 3: main rehearsal period and concerts, all composers join this period. Conductors are Vimbayi Kaziboni and Lucas Vis.
Concerts are scheduled as follows :
6 September 2013 : Gaudeamus Muziek Week (NL)
8 September 2013 : Royaumont Foundation (FR)
During the „Quantensprünge“ Festival 20.-22.09.2013 some pieces will be presented at the ZKM Karlsruhe.
In the period 24.-27.09.2013 some of the pieces will be presented in Frankfurt at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst.
