Composer Exchange Program IKI/Opus XXI – impuls

The two academies IKI/Opus XXI (Germany/ France) and impuls (Austria) decided to mutually invite young composers suggested by each academy, in order to offer them a wider and international audience as well as the possibility to have their pieces performed by different ensembles.
For the year 2013 the young Austrian composer Matthias Kranebitter has been selected to present his work at both academies, starting in Graz :

It is not the sound that occupies the centre of attention in that piece, but
the new forms and possibilities of musical gesture or expression (…) An un-organic intermingling, superimposition, counteraction and
disorder of the various sound events are looked for; the aim is total
heterogeneity, a grotesque aesthetic of disparity, of the projected and the
incomplete.

Works of the 20th and 21st Century by Anton Webern, Giacinto Scelsi, Georges Aperghis, Chaya Czernowin, Matthias Kranebitter, participants of the impuls composition classes and many more.
Around 190 young musicians and composers – coming from 4 continents – donnot only work on ensemble literature during the impuls Academy, but also on chamber music and works for soloists and smallest formations, on works of both renowned and young rising composers, who partly participate in the Academy themselves. During this long concert evening – offering also several breaks for rest and discussion – the results of this working period are presented: A night full of diversity and variations, full of young music … and with a high potential for discoveries.
